The previous newsletter was about the audio-first community tech stacks. Let's explore what are the workflows that need to set up inside your audio community.
Let's take a look at 3 main community processes and how they will work in the case of audio-first community.
First let's answer the question: what kind of community are you creating? Is it a hop in/on the go kind of place like Clubhouse, or it's more async community?
Figuring out the communication style helps to understand:
- weather the community is on 24/7.
- or there's a set schedule.
The decision highly impacts how the workflows can be designed for the audio-first community.
Onboarding as I already talked about is a process often overlooked inside a community. In audio-first communities, it's still rather an open question. While we're used to slack channels it can be hard to adapt to the audio channels.
I think a tool that is overlooked for onboarding, in general, is Loom. You can record a video or screengrab from your desktop/phone to make the member familiar with the community. And also don't forget to mention your guidelines.
Remember the first question of figuring out how is the community working (on the go, or in an async manner)? Well, the answer is largely needed in this step. What are the rituals that you're going to have in your community? Depending on the niche you might have a lot of options. Some of the rituals you might consider are:
- always on music chat
members adding their Spotify playlists and music. In the case of Discord as a community platform, it's largely easy to implement with this integration.
- always on gaming chat
- the weekly ritual of accountability call
works great for mastermind groups and communities specifically for accountability (like for freelancers, entrepreneurs)
- daily check-ins for well being
works great for communities that focus on mental health
- weekly chillout calls (no work just chill out)

Community Knowledge Management
Each community is creating a piece of knowledge in one way or another. Audio-first communities are no exception. However, the format is quite different in this case, which makes the process easier and harder at the same time.
Easier - because you might be working with podcasting tools which are already pretty mature for handling transcription.
Harder - because you need to create the text-based content from scratch.
For audio communities, in this case, they need to make crystal clear if any session or meeting is recorded (with the means of community guidelines) and where the materials might be shared.
The workflow for knowledge management, in this case, is as follows:
- transcribing the audio file into text,
- creating community only library from text and audio based materials,
- creating community only podcast with the audio materials,
- repurposing the text into content pieces such as - community-only library, blogs, Twitter threads, LinkedIn posts, youtube posts, etc.
- distributing the material for discovery purposes.
